I figured out a way to passively provide my playful cat with direct stimulation: trail a long, sturdy rope from my belt loops.
I'm really pleased with how well it's working. He's enjoying chasing it around the house, and I don't end up feeling like playtime is a chore, or like a neglectful jerk for only playing with him when the mood strikes me.
I was just French-braiding my hair at my desk, as the cat was eating next to me. (Because he's a fuzzy little weirdo who apparently needs my company to eat.) He stopped eating to watch, fascinated, and I could just see him thinking.. toy??
