A couple of #KDE #PlasmaDesktop updates ago, file/folder renaming on #Dolphin broke (still is), where your new name does not take place unless you press (single click) the file/folder after renaming - rather than clicking Enter.

Actually even before then, jumping from Plasma 5 to 6, or specifically the default to
#Wayland (cos it's fine on #SteamOS which still uses #X11) has also sort of broken renaming on Dolphin where you have to click Enter twice to submit changes, rather than once. It's more broken now tho cos it doesn't work at all regardless.

The recent Plasma 6.6 update has broken Dolphin again, also related to naming - except it's not when renaming but when naming in the prompted dialog when creating a new file/folder. Try copying something outside of Dolphin, e.g. a string from Firefox or Kate or wtv, and paste it into the input field on that dialog - it'd paste nothing. It'd only paste successfully if the string you copied is from Dolphin itself. I thought maybe it's to do with if I'm copying something from a
#Flatpak and pasting it to a non-sandboxed app but that's not the case.

Other than that, Plasma 6.6 has been decent, like the new screen/window sharing portal is pretty nice (slightly confusing/busy maybe?), tho the bug with exposé still has not been fixed since the jump to Plasma 6, tho I reckon that'd be the case for a really long time as I suspect that's a Wayland issue.

Just upgraded to #KDE #PlasmaDesktop 6.6 and immediately, there seems to be a regression for their Thermal Monitor widget. For context, this used to be coloured, and readable (i.e. light text on dark background). The widget itself doesn't seem to have any configuration option that would change/fix this.

---

edit: Seems like a known issue with the widget, and may have been fixed in version 0.2.7? Doesn't seem like the latest release has made its way to the AUR yet tho, cos mine's still on v0.2.5.

i'm disappointed with how these two desktop environments run on my fujitsu tablet

Plasma desktop for whatever reason drained my mobile broadband data because it seems to just put it on primary instead of the secondary for internet connection (i turned off mobile broadband connection)

Gnome does not have lower resolution options and i think its either philosophical reasons or its just the fact that they don't like outdated tech like CRTs. I liked gnome for the performance it gave and also, its useful to add such lower resolutions because i basically need this to mirror my display to my capture card because it only supports 720x480 (3:2 to be exact, DP-1 only) and not the 1920x1280 (3:2, eDP-1 only)

overall, i think i'm just gonna stick what i have right now (which is gnome) and just hope that the maintainers/contribs would fix some issues that i'm currently having. #linux #desktopenvironment #gnome #kde #plasmadesktop #plasma
I fucking miss when things work on #KDE lol - like the 'expose' feature (what #macOS calls it, dk what it's called on #PlasmaDesktop). It used to work the way it shd, where activating it shows an overview of windows from ONLY the same app. Ever since Plasma 6 first launched, which was a long time ago, it literally shows a bunch of different apps too lol e.g. exposing VS Code also shows Thunderbird, Firefox, etc. which makes this 'productivity' feature essentially useless. I've suspicion that it's more to do with #Wayland, maybe, not being able to differentiate these apps - and a lot of these apps also show the stupid Wayland logo/icons too instead of their own icons like they did on #X11... but yea.

It's a long-standing issue so it's probably already known, but who knows. Even
#Dolphin 's getting worse these days where you can't even rename files/folders properly and requires some weird ass workarounds e.g. after editing the name in the text input, don't press Enter - instead, use your mouse/trackpad and click on the file/folder you're renaming instead to save the change. Pretty freaking weird all around. Most of these if not all of these, I found, is not an issue on #SteamOS since #Valve still uses X11 instead of Wayland.
