I have in the past used #lmde6 and found it 'mostly' okay. My main perceived issues were a general lack of performance on my main PC compared to other DEs, and that #Nemo file manager can be fiddly at times, especially with lots of files, or forgetting custom column widths.

Ultimately, I felt that #lmde didn't bring much to the party for me that I achieve personally with pure #debian, so I stuck with that.

For the last 10+ years, I've used #debian #stable with the #xfce desktop. It has been fine up to and including #bookworm

But I'm seeing #trixie as a step change in a few ways, due to the changes in the industry over the last 2 years. So things like theme conformity across QT and GTK apps are harder as #plasma6 has dropped certain things and isn't feature matched to #plasma5 yet. Plus, a couple of apps and libraries I use haven't made it into #trixie

I have to move on at some point from #bookworm, for security/patch reasons. Just not sure what.

Zu #KDENeon, das OS hat sich generell easy aufspielen lassen. Keine Probleme damit.
Was ein Problem ist: #Wayland und die Look and Feel #Einstellungen. In Wayland lassen sich insgesamt die verschiedenen #Themes zu #Icons usw viel schlechter im #Store finden und einstellen, manche Features sind, wie im letzten Posting schon geschrieben, in #Plasma6 einfach nicht mehr da. Mein Vorgehen ist jetzt, erstmal alles in #X11 zu installieren, was ich so brauche an Programmen und suchen, welche #Features überhaupt noch da sind, die evtl ähnlich sind zu dem, was ich in #Plasma5 hatte. Wenn alles da ist, switche ich am Ende mal in Wayland und guck mir an, was dann alles nicht läuft. Finde, dass #KDE den Fokus auf Wayland legt, verfrüht, da ich jetzt, mit einem neuen Laptop, merke, dass einiges nicht am alten Laptop lag, sondern einfach daran, dass Wayland immer noch nicht so weit ist, dass es die gleiche optische Funktionalität bietet wie X11.

Ein weiterer großer Arbeitspunkt ist die #VM für das #Windows OS. Da sind wir gestern schon das erste Mal gescheitert. VM installieren alleine ging easy, aber darin dann das Windows OS zum laufen zu bringen, war das erste Mal ein pain in the ass.
Mal sehen, wie es heute weitergeht... To be continued. :-)

Habe KDE Neon in einer virtuellen Maschine als Live-System ausprobiert. Zwei Dinge wollte ich wissen:

• Kann Konqueror unter Plasma 6 wieder das Favicon der dargestellten Webseite in der Taskleiste anzeigen, so dass man die Inhalte der verschiedenen Browserfenster dort auf einen Blick unterscheiden kann?
• Können Firefox und/oder Konqueror unter Plasma 6 mit Activities umgehen?

Beim ersten Punkt hätte mich die Rückkehr der Funktionalität stark überrascht. Seit mehreren Jahren patche ich sie in Plasma 5 zurück, nachdem sie dort entfernt wurde. Die anwendungsseitige Implementierung war wohl irgendwie falsch - und anstatt das zu korrigieren, hat man KDE-seitig eben die komplette Funktionalität entfernt. Abschließend haben die Beteiligten sich damals gegenseitig versichert, dass eine geregelte neue Umsetzung gut wäre, aber niemand beabsichtige, eine solche anzugehen. 🙃

Beim zweiten Punkt hatte ich mir auf Basis zahlreicher Diskussionen über den praktischen Nutzen von Activities mit an KDE Beteiligten Fortschritte erhofft. Aber auch hier bleibt Plasma 6 in meinem Anwendungsfall hinter Plasma 5 zurück, weil Browser-Ressourcen beendeter Activities nicht freigegeben werden (es gibt noch weitere Probleme). Der Unterschied liegt aber teilweise wiederum daran, dass ich mir für Plasma 5 auch Konqueror in einen früheren Zustand zurückpatche (jedes Browserfenster ein separater Prozess, dann klappt es auch mit den Activities).

Ergo: Ich muss hoffen, dass mir Plasma 5.27.11 noch lange als Umgebung für meinen Arbeitsplatz zur Verfügung stehen wird. 😐

Tried #KDE #Plasma5 for a week or so. Went back to #Fluxbox. KDE didn't do anything super special that I needed, and the inconveniences were not worth it. With the huge exception of KDE's lack of tabbed windows, it was little things, mostly.

For example, the weather widget wouldn't display the current temp. The Window List widget can't seem to sort by desktop or even by window name - I have 20 windows open on 8 desktops. Finding one manually was not ideal.

Back home to Fluxbox.

Trying out #Enlightenment E17, because Terminology is a joy to use and I haven't tried it since E16 was new. It's... well, it's pretty, I'll give it that. And it scales UI elements so much more cleanly than #Plasma5 does. But the actual DE feels kinda clunky, and the tiling support kept glitching out.

So back to Plasma 5 I go, lamenting that the MX repos don't have Plasma 6 yet. (QT6 is supposed to have improved scaling.)

Anyone know if there are any other WMs built on #EFL?

I think I'm going to have #Diamond4on6 versioning be 1.x for the #Plasma4 version and 2.x for the #Plasma6 version. Could probably have a version for #Plasma5 , but I don't use it and it's the old stable version (for now my version would probably work on 5, not sure, though; at least it will be available if someone wants to try).
