Plain language isn't dumbing down. It's respecting the reader.

When someone uses a service, they're usually anxious, distracted, or in a hurry. Clear, direct language helps them move through without stopping to decode what you mean.

"You must notify us within 14 days" does the same job as "It is incumbent upon the applicant to ensure notification is provided to the relevant authority within a 14-day period", except one of them actually gets read.

Do you know of any movement promoting minimal, utilitarian writing, stripping everything down to what the recipient actually needs?

Asking because I see many people writing a rough draft, asking an AI to polish it, bloat it, and the recipient uses another AI to summarize it. Two humans, zero actual communication.

There's #plainlanguage and #Crocker 's Rules, but nothing focused specifically on cutting the fluff from everyday writing.

Could #smolwrite (or another name) be a thing?
