If you’re like me and are always either too broke or too slow to take advantage of Nepenthes x kinabaluensis being made available…mira x villosa is a darn good substitute. This seed grown plant from @bramblesbotanicals (and I think grown out of @jeremiahsplants seeds) is a significantly fast plant as far as highlanders go, has great maroon-brick red coloration, and with every new pitcher it not only gets bigger, but the peristome gets broader and toothier. When it matures I expect it’ll make a pretty good imitation, if slightly smaller, of true x kinabaluensis

Just keeps getting better as the traps get bigger…Nepenthes maxima “tentena” x (veitchii x platychila). The platy influence is showing strong.

Upper vs. lower pitchers on Nepenthes alata “Flames of Apo.”
The true alata always has at least some remnant of wings even in these fully mature uppers, and usually a mottled pattern rather than solid or blushed.

Variation in Nepenthes Rokko “Exotica” x palawanensis. Uniform coloration and thick peristomes seem to be standard.

The coyote has another plant to share, that got repotted just after this: Nepenthes robcantleyi x (aristolochioides x spectabilis)
Chunky little traps show off incredible changing stripe colors, and they should get a fair bit bigger now that this guy has more space to spread in. Most of the coloration seems to come from the pollen parent, but rob provides extra peristome flare and size.

New video out!
This week's midweek plant highlight is one of my present favorite natural hybrids: Nepenthes x alisaputrana. Giagantic, colorful, also so far in my experience extremely easy and fairly rapid to grow, it's an amazing intersection between one of the genus giants and another highly prized endemic in the same region.

Is this plant doing well or not? I'm not quite sure. The 2nd one (the little one that kinda is getting shaded by the big one and needs repotting) looks greener and more like how I'd expect it to look.

Is the light too much?

Set to 10h/day and intensity 7/10 (120W).

Nepenthes bellii x robcantleyi, bouncing back rapidly after the repot it needed. It’s yet to flower, but once settled it makes a lot of big, chunky traps. Didn’t inherit the dark color of rob sadly, but the contrast of lime green peristome (which blushes bronze sometimes) and purple inside is attractive.

When it comes to simple hybrids, it’s hard to beat the spectacular and easy nature of Nepenthes ventricosa x spectabilis. Chunky, flared peristomes, and bright reds that quickly age to this deep purple and black.

Which do you prefer, lighter and multicolor stripes, or dark and chocolate-red?
Both are sibling Nepenthes (veitchii x burbidgeae) x stenophylla I got as freebies a while back, that just got a much-needed pot upgrade.
