Celebrating Pistachios

Pistachios are those green-tinged nuts available in large bags at your Middle Eastern grocery for a cost effective price. Pistachio icecream is more or less well known in the West, and France has the best pistachio sorbet. Unshelled nuts, salted, are a common pre-dinner or drinks snack. But otherwise they don’t appear on our tables very much.

It is a pity, as they add colour, texture and flavour to dishes. Like this one:

Happy #HumpDay all! Here's a controversial opinion that many of you won't like but is difficult to disagree with:

I don't think #DubaiChocolate is all that special. Even with the best of them, I find it hard to detect much of the #Pistachio flavour that I otherwise enjoy when I eat pistachios on their own. All that I can taste is white #Chocolate filling covered in dark chocolate with just a hint of nondescript nuttiness. To me, it's even worse than trying to detect any trace of almonds in marzipan so I really don't understand the craze.

Meanwhile, we're in the middle of a massive Pistachio recall because of a Salmonella outbreak. While the recall only affects nuts from Iran, it's easy to avoid pistachios from ALL regions in order to be safe.

Anyway. I just thought it was poor timing by these coffee brands to keep pushing their ... nuts
