“Nobody shushed the room. The lower house lights did not dim. There was no call to order. Energy simply shifted between us and within us, and the hush was total.” Meg Elison writes of her magical experience inside the Skyspace installation at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.

The first part of the church in Bacharach on the Middle Rhine (Rhineland-Palatinate), later called the Werner Chapel, was completed as early as 1293, but the church was not finished until after 1426. The church was badly damaged during the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689 and remained a ruin afterwards.
Werner von Oberwesel (or von Bacharach -1271-1287) was a day labourer. His unexplained death was blamed on Jews in the sense of the ritual murder legend and thus led to a bloody persecution of Jews on the Middle Rhine. Werner was venerated as a Catholic saint and the chapel became a popular place of pilgrimage.
