PieFed gets /r/random, like reddit used to have

You’ll get taken to a random community. Once you arrive there’s a link at the top of the page to /r/random so you can just hammer away at that until you get somewhere that’s the right combo of random and interesting.

There is also /r/randnsfw that takes you to a random nsfw communty if your instance has them.

Back to the future - Interacting with threadiverse communities through Usenet / NNTP

A few months ago I threw this question out into the void - “what if you could access the fediverse through your Usenet reader??” and got almost no response. Still, the idea had lodged in my brain and wouldn’t go away so this weekend I caved in and built the thing. Hat tip to the author of the excellent nntpserver package that did all the hard stuff.

I look forward to seeing someone’s screenshots of fediverse posts on a Commodore 64, some day.

Started this piefed.social community you can follow from any lemmy instance a while ago, forgot about it.

You can post to the lemmyverse there from here, the mastodonverse.

The tags become categories you can search through the word cloud there.

You want to do a clean title or it comes in as garbage and I'll just delete over on that end.

I have the front page set up in wide tile view and it looks like album covers that way so I suggest attaching a nice rich graphic and a link to the place where you can listen to it.

You can tag by songs, albums, bits, genres, artists, decades, locations, etc. and filter that way there.

There's not much posted so far but I think I'll start adding to it again

As part of the constant tinkering on #keyboardvagabond, today I did a few fixes:
1) the talos registry mirror fallbacks were wrong, so #harborregistry went down and so did #cloudflared and #tailscale. Scary. I got back in to the system and separated the mirror and fallback configs (for disaster only) and then scaled harbor to 2 replicas, hopefully to prevent this failure in the future

2) added a #piefed watchdog script that restarts if the queue is stuck (cont'd) #kubernetes #selfhosting

With Reddit flirting with requiring Age verification, the next Rexit might be around the corner, are we ready?

With previous Rexit’s like the API debarcle etc. many users were left looking for an alternative, but with decision fatigue and bad UX etc. most did not find the Fediverse a viable option.

What needs to still improve, how can we be ready this time?
