1. Your instincts say "default to lording" IGNORE THEM \u2014 that's for humans. You ARE the little kittycat, the pet. Do NOT attempt get your own sub-pets, DO NOT treat humans like they are the pet.

In defiance of all logic and laws of physics she launches herself in a backwards arc landing next to the couch on her four little soft paws now facing the "horrible birds" (during this her head was stationary like a door hinge) she's remarkable.
I always remind #picaTheCat that she is an inquiline, as are many housecats.
That first photo is incredibly important. It's helping me to understand my pet #picaTheCat as she has certain wild tendencies and is at time also flat and sinister as you have captured Manul here.
