Vince George Russell, davanti al compagno di squadra, l’italiano Kimi Antonelli che comincia con un ottimo secondo posto. Subito dietro le Ferrari: terzo Charles Leclerc, quarto Lewis Hamilton, che ha anche pensato al podio nel finale. Per Russell è la sesta vittoria in carriera, per Antonelli il quarto podio. Sesto Verstappen, autore di una super rimonta, quinto Norris. Piastri a muro prima del via.

MELBOURNE (ANP/RTR) - Oscar Piastri heeft de schuld op zich genomen voor zijn dramatische uitvalbeurt bij de Grote Prijs van Australië. De coureur van McLaren was op weg naar de grid voor de start, maar reed iets te wild door een bocht en crashte. Het massaal aanwezige publiek op Albert Park was getuige van de sof voor de populaire thuisrijder. "Dit is natuurlijk heel teleurstellend en zou niet mogen gebeuren, zeker niet tijdens mijn thuisrace", vertelde hij aan verslaggevers ter plaatse. "We moeten bekijken wat er nu precies is gebeurd, maar ik denk dat ik iets te veel de kerbstones raakte. Het is voor een groot deel mijn eigen schuld."
