Notes on #Research Culture : “ Oh dear he ‘s anti #AI . Toast. Left in dust…..
Weeeeelllll….no. I’ve been using and building tools incorporating #MachineLearning and #PhysicalScience for research applications for a good while. No one ever forced those tools into an operating system or email account to sell me stuff or steal data without my permission…Oh wait ! These are precisely the use cases I single out as necrotizing and cancerous. What a Surprize ! Take the good with the bad ?
Yeah… No !

This isn’t just a quirk of the Eiffel Tower—all metals and materials with similar properties expand and contract with temperature changes. The tower’s designer, Gustave Eiffel, accounted for this with a flexible structure that keeps it stable year-round.

So next time you visit, remember the science behind this engineering marvel! #EiffelTower #Paris #Engineering #ScienceFacts #SummerFacts #PhysicalScience (2/2)

1/2 Notes on #UAP Discussions : The general public likes a good story, in that vein the differences between truth and fiction may not play a leading role. Researchers on the other hand mostly don’t confuse the two. The line between evidential support and speculation is usually pretty clear.
That doesn’t mean #PhysicalScience is all that gets done. The culture and belief of an extant community and the representations it perpetuates also get looked at, so we can take notes for instance…

The PSDI team travelled to Edinburgh this week to run the Research Data for the Physical Sciences Workshop (https://www.psdi.ac.uk/event/research-data-forum-2025/) with the @digitalcuration ✈️🌎

It was a great agenda and a very active audience from across research support, stay tuned for outputs from the meeting coming soon! 😉

Research Data in the Physical Sciences: A Forum for Librarians and Research Support Professionals - Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure

The Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure (PSDI) and the Digital Curation Centre (DCC) are delighted to invite you to this in-person forum designed for data librarians and research support professionals working within the physical sciences across the UK and EU. This event will be hosted at the John McIntyre Conference Centre from approx. 10.30am on 5th March to 3pm on the 6th March. Over two days, attendees will engage in knowledge exchange, community discussions, and networking opportunities, all centred on the challenges, opportunities, and emerging solutions in research data management for the physical sciences. With keynote presentations, poster sessions, lightning talks, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, the event aims to foster collaboration and innovation. By connecting professionals in academia, industry, and support roles, we hope to create a vibrant community dedicated to enabling frictionless data sharing, open collaboration, and a digitally integrated research ecosystem.

7. Funding & Policy Constraints

📌 Short-Term Funding Models: Data archiving and maintenance require long-term investment
📌 Evolving Compliance Regulations: Adapting to new data-sharing policies
📌 Lack of Institutional Support: Many researchers lack dedicated data management resources

How would you suggest overcoming these challenges?

Science Explorer Advisory Board Call for Nominations

The Science Explorer (SciX) is a transformative digital library that fosters open, interdisciplinary science across astronomy, Earth science, heliophysics, planetary science, and NASA-funded biological and physical sciences while substantially increasing the overall research efficiency of these disciplines. SciX is a discovery platform that connects the earth and space science literature to NASA and other relevant data and software repositories, enhancing the science return on investments in individual archives. As the natural extension of the NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS), which has served the astronomy community for the past 30 years, SciX now expands its scope to support all NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) disciplines. We are currently seeking nominations for the SciX Advisory Board, which will guide the strategic development and continuous improvement of SciX over a three-year term. The Advisory Board will consist of individuals with a commitment to interdisciplinary research and a vision for how SciX can best serve the scientific community. The advisory board will meet quarterly. For additional details about the position responsibilities please refer to the Science Explorer Advisory Board Charter. Selection will be based on the nominee's expertise, leadership experience, and potential to contribute to SciX’s mission. Self-nominations are welcome. For more information about SciX, please see our website. Please complete this submission by October 31st.
