I teach #kiCAD using Raffaello's painting as a metaphor, how cool is that? #teaching #electronics #FLOSS #HKUSTGZ #digitalfabrication #physicalcomputing @kicad
Yeah! some pics from yesterday's "Digital Fabrication & Physical Computing" course (@hkustgz_cma @hkustguangzhou ) exhibition, teamed up with @margaretminsky 's E-Textiles class. Amazing student projects and very nice vibe in the OpenLab. So happy with how my first course here went #HKUSTGZ #MakerEd. #exhibition #finalprojects #students #digitalfabrication #physicalcomputing #3dprinting #lasercutting #cncmilling #arduino

Opening up my 2010 projBox, my first experience with Arduino. Apart from the birdshit solder joints, sticky potentiometers and not-even rat's nest wiring:

* one out of the four switches doesn't register;

* one of the LEDs is connected to the wrong port;

* one of the potentiometers somehow affects other analogue channels.

Maybe I'll rewire it. It might benefit from a hard-wired shield. Kind of proud of the period-appropriate Arduino Duemilanove in there, though

Milestone: achieved gender parity in both programming courses I’m teaching next semester #SwiftUI and #PhysicalComputing. A regular repost with ideas on how faculty, especially those who “look like me” can promote tech diversity. https://open.substack.com/pub/profgallaugher/p/things-all-can-do-to-encourage-diverse
Things All Can Do To Encourage Diverse STEM Students

As a white male tech professor I’m not exactly the go-to demographic for creating a feeling of inclusion among marginalized students.

Here's a look at Week 11 of #CircuitPython #PhysicalComputing class. Students made rubber band launchers with a #RaspberryPi Pico, joystick, 3 servos, and a button. Big fun! https://youtube.com/shorts/envNY1mYCEQ

Week 11 of Boston College Physical Computing. Students built joystick controlled rubber band launchers. 3 servos, a joystick, button, a 3D printed model & laser cut base. We learned about recognizing ways to improve user experience & code for improved control & positioning.

eek, found my old projBox — complete with Arduino Duemilanove and my then-terrible soldering. It was my introduction to Physical computing.

Anyone else get their start with Arduino/Processing with the O'Reilly course "Processing and Arduino in Tandem"? The projBox was designed for that course
