We systematically collected literature, and used network component analysis to map microalgal axenisation methods and identify antibiotic-free workflows. We could identify clear workflows for diatoms and dinoflagellates, but other #microalgae groups were poorly represented or the methods were sparsely used. We further present practical experiences and opinions from culture banks.

My new print titled "Protease secreting Nannochloropsis limnetica can valorise invasive plants through circular water-use and accumulate neutral lipids" can be accessed at: https://doi.org/10.1101/2025.11.29.691304.

We demonstrate that microalgae can help circularise water-use in the LPC production process. This helps reduce fresh water consumption without affecting the yield or quality of LPC.
