Cthulhu Origines c’est la nouvelle gamme de jeu de rôle lancée par Black Books Editions en octobre 2022 à l’occasion d’un foulancement à succès (plus de 100 000 € recueillis).
Comme son nom (Cthulhu Origines) le laisse deviner, le jeu se déroule dans les années 1920 et c’est inspiré de l’œuvre de H. P. Lovecraft. Le cadre du jeu repart de la Nouvelle-Angleterre, pour exploiter le folklore ésotérique du peuple des collines et d’ailleurs. Le système de jeu utilisé se base sur celui de Chroniques Oubliées, adapté à un ton plus sombre et mature avec notamment des règles qui mettent l’accent sur la découverte de l’horreur lovecraftienne et ses conséquences sur l’équilibre psychique des personnages.
Le projet a connu quelques ralentissements : en juin 2023 l’équipe porteuse du projet (Black Books Editions) annonçait que deux membres de l’équipe de rédaction devait se mettre en retrait du projet en raison de difficultés personnelles.
Depuis, le projet a poursuivi sa progression, et voilà qu’en ce 22 juillet 2024 le PdF du livre du Témoin (livre des joueurs) est disponible pour les souscripteurs.
Le Livre du Témoin, qui s’apparente à un livre du Joueur, et inclut une aventure solo, les informations de création et progression de personnage, une liste des voies, les règles de jeu, une présentation de l’univers et du contexte des années 20, dont un chapitre consacré aux traumatismes psychiques et aux techniques de soins psychiatriques de cette époque.Nous avons donc commencé à tester… Et c’est avec une détective que nous aimons particulièrement que nous faisons le test de création de personnage.
Pourquoi choisir Miss Fisher ? Et bien : pourquoi pas !
Plus sérieusement, c’est surtout pour vérifier ce que l’on peut vraiment faire et si la souplesse de création de personnage est au rendez-vous.
Ici, nous avons créé un personnage en suivant les règles de bases (à peu près), sans trop gonfler les caractéristiques. Pour le moment, on a remarqué quelques limitations. En effet, le choix des Voies en fonction des domaines (sortes d’archétypes) est très « archétypal » justement. Tout comme les Voies (c’est le principe de base de Chroniques Oubliées) qui peuvent être assez restreintes.
Néanmoins, les règles de création permettent de mettre l’accès sur le background des personnages. Ce que l’on n’a pas trop utilisé pour l’exemple Miss Fisher, nous aurions pu mettre plus de Désavantages (Joli Cœur ou Traumatisé à vie ?) , ce qui aurait permis d’attribuer plus d’Avantages (Remarquable).
