Joe Engressia discovered at a very young age that by whistling a specific tone into the telephone, he could manipulate the entire system. Rachael J. Morrison’s delightful, enriching documentary is a tribute to an individual who overcame our ableist society in a most unusual and subversive manner. This screening, co-presented by ReelAbilities Film Festival, will feature open captions and open audio descriptions. Director Rachael J. Morrison in person.

by coincidence, the kid (literally about 10yo) who ran a big #bbs near me lived in the same town as me. he made this term program for the #c64 called "phone man" which had all the #phreak boxes. you reminded me of all this just now.. and i see this page about it is still up. i did the graphics on this thing. 😂 memories.

dear #lazyweb: if dev/sysadmin inclined dude that was a former teenage #phreak and and ages ago #asterisk hobbyist wanted to jump into modern #voip or #cellular tech and play around on his own systems, where would he start? there is a wide array of books on skillsoft and i have no idea if any of the technologies are outdated. i also don't know if asterisk is still the hot thing.

@FSonder #Phreak. You can use a tone dialler such as Psion 3c to call other numbers from these phones. I may have done this from a Welsh beach.

family got me an old #westernelectric style #telephone for father's day! this one has had some real use. local area code and business leasing stickers on the bottom. the top row is recessed a bit so I'm sure it was used heavily with a #pbx at one point or another.

now to find my matching black phone and a couple of #ata devices. would be fun to have another #asterisk instance.
