Photo restoration without AI
When we had our photo studio, one of my favourite jobs was to take a cherished photo belonging to a client, to scan it in high resolution and restore it, revealing detail that had no longer been visible in the faded, damaged print.
Image 1 is the original print I was given to work with.
Image 2 is the final restored photograph.
This photo of the little Victorian child was, perhaps, one of my favourites as the detail that emerged as I worked on the image revealed part of a family history of which I was unaware. The client had not been able to see that there was a tall figure to the right of the little girl in the picture. Once the restoration was complete, she told me that this lady was a relative that she knew of, and therefore this was the clue she needed to identify the little girl who was also a relative.
The satisfaction of restoring this part of a family history is perhaps not hard to imagine. We printed and framed this for her and it has pride of place on her wall.
Isn't she lovely?
