Rando named "Ivan" with a distinctly Russian accent (possibly synthesized? Hard to tell these days) left voicemail calling out my home address specifically, offering "a home improvement project" generating "passive income" in the amount of $4K/month.

Should I call "Ivan" back? What do you think, Internet?

(Nb, this is why I leave my phone turned off....)

The irony of an attempted scam ON MY CALENDAR being for a Norton Lifelock renewal.

FYI scams can attempt to scam you via your calendar. There is a spot under your apps permissions to turn off permission for literally anyone on the planet with the skills, to place a scam on your phone.

I was supposed to call, and follow their directions to give away the farm.

I HATE these events. They are traumatizing.

Truecaller's new 'Family Protection' lets you remotely shield up to five relatives from phone scams.

Truecaller has launched 'Family Protection,' allowing one user (the Admin) to manage and set scam-blocking settings for up to five family members. This feature offers a shared safety net, and on Android, the Admin can even receive alerts and remotely end an active scam call to protect vulnerable relatives.

I think I got an attempted scam, and this was a unique one.

Person called, said they were from my phone company. As I was such a good customer, they wanted to give me a 30% discount on my plan for the next year (suspicion!)

Then asked if I knew how much my last phone bill was. I said no (it's autopay, I've honestly got no clue).

Asked if I could guess. I said no.

The caller hung up without another word.

Pretty sure I just dodged some ID theft of sorts.

I also have advice for all of you regarding what to do when a number with a hidden ID calls(where you can't see the number which is calling)

You can pick up the phone, press the answer button but just listen, don't say anything:

This way you're also protecting yourself against criminal organizations which are only interested in collecting your voice so they can try to fool your relatives into believing that you are asking for help etc.
