Bliss
Ended Wednesday and started Thursday after a swim with Three Waves by the Steve Kuhn Trio, released on Contact in 1966.
Review by Ken Dryden
Predictable is not an adjective associated with the recordings of pianist Steve Kuhn. He is joined by bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Pete La Roca for this exciting studio session from the mid-1960s, both of whom he had worked with under Art Farmer, as well as on La Roca's smashing debut as a leader, Basra. With the exception of "Ida Lupino" and "Never Let Me Go," the music will likely be unfamiliar to most jazz fans, but adventurous souls are in for a treat...
"Hearing the Steve Kuhn Trio at his best -as it is on this record- one is made aware of the intricacy, the passion and the great beauty of jazz improvisation."

Manhattan Stories
by Charles Lloyd, released on Resonance in 2014.
Two 1965 New York Concerts, Disc 1 recorded at Judson Hall & Disc 2 recorded at Slugs' Saloon.
A remarkable and previously unrecorded quartet featuring three jazz giants: guitarist Gábor Szabó, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Pete La Roca.
'It was a specific time and place'; Lloyd told Manhattan Stories annotator Don Heckman. 'We all felt like the boundaries were being dissolved and we could do or try anything. This is a music of freedom and wonder -- we were young and on the move.'
The Judson Hall recording comes from the archives of Resonance founder George Klabin, whose trove has previously yielded treasures from Bill Evans and Jimmy Giuffre. The Slugs' performances were recorded by Bjorn von Schlebrugge, who accompanied Lloyd to his Manhattan gigs.

To Sweden with Love is an album of Swedish folk music by Art Farmer's Quartet featuring guitarist Jim Hall recorded in Stockholm in 1964 and originally released on the Atlantic label.
Farmer's account was that his band was touring in Sweden not long after the Swedish pianist Jan Johansson had had a commercially successful recording of Swedish folk songs; a record company official "comes to me and says, 'How about you guys do an album of Swedish folk songs?' I said, 'We don't know any Swedish folk songs.' [...] He said, 'Okay, I’ll get the music'"..
The Allmusic review states "The band's cool and restrained style suits the music perfectly, turning it into jazz without losing its essence" - Wikipedia

This was a recent birthday present. I'm so impressed with this record, instantly one of my favorite Joe Henderson records.
