My first acts as Library Commissioner that aren't onboarding or agendized business:
* exploring what it'll take to get Petaluma and Sebastopol as much library support as Santa Rosa (SR will have 1 branch per 45K people soon! Petaluma is busiest in the system, has 1 branch for 80K. Sebastopol is busiest per square foot.)
* and letting the Petaluma branch know they could double bike parking capacity if we fixed how the bike racks were installed
Come ~June, I need to appoint someone local to the Measure Y Oversight Committee, which meets a few times a year to ensure tax dollars are being well spent by the library system.
It's not the most exciting, but it's a way to support the libraries, get to know them better, and serve your community.
Let me know if you'd like to learn more!

Ok I've already had a spicy first meeting, did tech onboarding, and got across a few key issues including budget priorities I need to go to bat for ... but now I'm properly listed on the Sonoma County Library Commission website and it feels even more real π₯Ή

Full house for screening of Stripped for Parts, a doco about how vulture capitalism by orgs like Alden Capital is destroying journalism.
Thx to Petaluma Voice for hosting and building local nonprofit news! Join me and donate: https://www.petalumavoice.org
Alden recently bought our local newspapers, having already killed many.
The hollowing out of news increases corruption and decreases civic engagement.

I had to cancel my first planned speech this week, but as a result it means the first speech I've ever given since coming out as trans was at a Trans Day of Visibility event... and that just feels so fitting.
Plus, what an honor to share the stage with San Francisco Pride's Executive Director, Suzanne Ford! π₯°

That blessed moment when I've been idly noodling on a creative act for weeks, and finally I catch lightning in a bottle β and the words and structure just flow.
I am so, so excited to speak at tomorrow's Trans Day of Visibility event.
Five years and the Petaluma General Plan Advisory Committee is done! About twice as long and twice as many meetings as anticipated.
... Now myself and my former committee members just need to be ambassadors for the plan to make sure it gets passed without getting mangled in the home stretch.
If we elect Joanna Paun in Sonoma County District 2, and Melanie Bagby in District 4, we will:
- turn the current corrupt majority vote on the Board of Supervisors into a minority
- have 4 women on a board long dominated by men who are sellouts

Lovely to spend the afternoon getting to know fellow library Commissioner Barbara Mackenzie, who represents Rohnert Park!
... Followed by an evening at the Petaluma Library, where Petaluma Indivisible is holding their first public meeting! Great turn out.
