Decades before it became HR, it was known as Personnel. Until Clint Eastwood as "Dirty Harry" Callahan delivered this iconic line.

Cue a mass renaming to HR or variants of it.

And now HR is becoming "People Services".

Doesn't matter what name it goes by, it's staffed by assholes whose sole mission is to "Protect the business".
