Star #Anise is a #spice native to southern China and Vietnam.
It is harvested from an evergreen tree in fruits shaped like an eight-pointed #star with one seed in each point.
They are dried and the #pericarp, the remains of the plant’s ovum that forms around the seed, which is the source of the anise-like, #licorice flavor, is sold either dry whole or ground.
