The upper three represent Science (holding a globe and compass), the Arts (holding books), and finally, at the very top, Progress (holding a bronze torch).

The Winter Gardens at the Peoples' Palace on Glasgow Green. Built in 1898, it was extensively renovated for its 100th anniversary in 1998, including reglazing it. However, by the early 2020s, it had become clear that, the sealant used to attach the glass to the ironwork in the 1990s renovation had reached the end of its lifespan, rendering the space unsafe. It's now in the process of being refurbished once again.

Love the almost Art Nouveau style font used for this monogram on the gates of the People's Palace on Glasgow Green. This builiding was designed by A.B. MacDonald and was constructed in the 1890s as a museum for the people of the city.

The People's Palace on Glasgow Green. Designed in a Renaissance style by Alexander B. McDonald, it was built in the 1890s as a museum and winter gardens. It's decorated with sculptures by William Kellock Brown representing shipbuilding, mathematics, sculpture, painting, enginèring, the textile industry, science, the arts and, at the very top holding a bronze torch, progress.

Storm clouds over the People's Palace on Glasgow Green.

This isn't from today, it's a shot I took late one evening about a month ago when there was a storm coming in from the east, but the setting sun was still shining in from the west, illumimating the red sandstone building and the winter gardens glasshouse behind it.

As far as I'm concerned, there's few things in the world which beat red sandstone against blue skies for architectural impact.
