In 1974, a small group of workers at a Rolls Royce factory in the west of Scotland refused to work on the engines of aircraft of General Pinochet, who had overthrown the democratically elected government of Chile the year before.

Love that someone has taken the time to put out this sign on Peel Street in the Partick area of Glasgow. It marks the entrance to bumblebee nest, and you can see one of its inhabitants hovering over the sign as it comes into land.

As it's the Winter Solstice today, it's worth remembering that Glasgow has its very own stone circle. Created in Sighthill by Duncan Lunan in the 1970s, it's thought to have been the first astronomically-aligned stone circle created in over three thousand years.
