Manifestement les mélèzes ne semblaient pas faire grand cas de la frontière. De part et d'autre ils se paraient des mêmes couleurs, et les valdôtains ne parlaient pas plus avec les mains que leurs cousins savoyards ne faisaient grève.

Le torrent n'était pas bien profond, mais il avait fallu un gué pour aider les randonneurs dans leur traversée. Il eût été regrettable qu'ils se mouillent les pieds.
