Former Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MP awarded peerage
Hart was Secretary of State for Wales in Boris Johnson’s government and as Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury and Chief Whip for Rishi Sunak.
He was elected to the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire seat in 2010, however his seat was abolished in the 2024 parliamentary constituency boundary changes.
Hart stood for the new Caerfyrddin seat, however lost the subsequent election that saw the Labour Party come to power.
He was previously Chief Executive of the Countryside Alliance from 2003 to 2010 prior to being elected to parliament.
His recently published diaries have been criticised by some Conservatives for revealing secrets of his time in government, including stories of an MP being trapped in a brothel after a suspected KGB honeytrap and politicians demanding knighthoods.
Following his peerage, he will now take a seat for the Conservatives in the House of Lords.
