read the first part of the #pavingthedesirepath post from @pluralistic

i used to date a landscaper, so i know about this one. and i care about how software works, which is just where i assume doctorow (ive read several of his books) is going.

this is a great way for developers to make me hate them- fight with desire paths.

developers routinely set hurdles along desire paths to try to redirect users like cattle. especially big names.

ive fought this for years. i do not support it. it sucks.

If you've ever read about design, you've probably encountered the idea of #PavingTheDesirePath. A #DesirePath is an erosion path created by people departing from the official walkway and taking their own route. The story goes that smart campus planners don't fight the desire paths laid down by students; they pave them, formalizing the route that their constituents have voted for with their feet.
