Jefferson Airplane released their 5th on November 2, 1969. They confront the Vietnam ware with their songs, lyrics and profanity, making it one of the most controversial albums of its time. While appearing on both earlier editions of Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time," it's stupidly omitted on the most recent in 2020. #jeffersonairplane #volunteers #60smusic #60srock #folkrock #vietnamwar #graceslick #paulkantner #martybalin Listen to…
"Blows Against the Empire" (1970) was one of the first P.E.R.R.O albums, and the first to use the name #JeffersonStarship". #PaulKantner's sci-fi fantasy isn't one of my favorites (how many chords in "Mau-Mau"?) but the #AlbumArt is very nice.

Today’s listening is ‘Baron von Tollbooth & The Chrome Nun’, the 1973 album by Paul Kantner, Grace Slick & David Freiberg.
Most songs are written by Kantner & Slick (with lyrics either of the usual sci-fi nonsense by Kantner or Slick’s blunt sexual ramblings).
Lead guitar on most tracks by Jerry Garcia with other Jefferson Airplane & The Grateful Dead members joining in!
The album title comes from nick-names for Kantner & Slick, respectively.
#PaulKantner of #JeffersonAirplane died on 28 January 2016, on exactly the same date as Airplane co-founder Signe Toly Anderson.
A prolific member of the #LaurelCanyon scene, Kantner wrote Wooden Ships with #DavidCrosby and recorded a concept album with Crosby, Nash, Jerry Garcia et al.
Crosby nicknamed Kantner and Grace Slick, then a couple, “Baron von Tollbooth & the Chrome Nun”, which became the name of a 1973 album. Rolling Stone called Kantner and Slick “the psychedelic John and Yoko”.
