Palaeoecology made easy: two new tools to make the best use of big data in archaeology | Department of Archaeology

In recent years, we witnessed the publication of both large datasets of archaeological occurrences and palaeoclimatic data series covering hundreds of thousands of years. This opened the door to new, exciting possibilities in the field of palaeoecology.

Our #pastclim paper is now officially out in an
issue of Ecography!

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/ecog.06481

We made #paleoclimate easily available, what are you waiting to use it for your project? 😉

If you wonder where to start, here you find all the info you need
https://evolecolgroup.github.io/pastclim/index.html

pastclim: Manipulate Time Series of Palaeoclimate Reconstructions

Methods to easily extract and manipulate palaeoclimate reconstructions for ecological and anthropological analyses, as described in Leonardi et al. (2022) <<a href="https://doi.org/10.1101%2F2022.05.18.492456">doi:10.1101/2022.05.18.492456</a>>.

I am happy and proud to introduce you to the #newpaper describing #pastclim v 1.2, our #Rstats #package to easily access and use #paleoclimate
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/ecog.06481 now out in Ecography

If you are in #Cambridge tomorrow, I will be at the #Archaeology Department to talk about

"Integrating #paleoclimate into the study of the past"

I will also be presenting #pastclim v. 1.1, our #Rpackage to extract and manipulate past #climate data:

Manipulate Time Series of Palaeoclimate Reconstructions

Methods to easily extract and manipulate palaeoclimate reconstructions for ecological and anthropological analyses, as described in Leonardi et al. (2023) <doi:10.1111/ecog.06481>.

#paleoclimate can be a great resource for studies in #archaeology, #genetics/#genomics, #ancientDNA, #conservation, #ecology, #evolution, #anthropology and even #linguistics. #pastclim allows including it easily in existing analyses and pipelines.

Here is the preprint describing version 1.0 but stay tuned for an updated manuscript hopefully out soon! https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.05.18.492456v1

Please, for the version 1.1.0 refer to the material in https://evolecolgroup.github.io/pastclim or https://github.com/EvolEcolGroup/pastclim

If you work with #paleoclimate, you will be happy to see that #pastclim 1.1 is now out!

https://evolecolgroup.github.io/pastclim/

We have many new functions, now summarised in a #cheatsheet
https://evolecolgroup.github.io/pastclim/pastclim_cheatsheet.pdf

We also explain how to work with custom #paleoclimatic data
https://evolecolgroup.github.io/pastclim/articles/a2_custom_datasets.html
(but if you do, please consider making them available to others, as explained in this vignette)
