Good morning

Sitting having lunch and minding my own business when this bird wandered up and started staring at me through the garden window. I have never seen one before and he/she seemed just as inquisitive as me!

It looked a little lost and must have strayed from its usual habitat. Seems it is a #red-legged #partridge. Apparently it was introduced to the UK as a game #bird c.1700. It wandered off and flew away after about 5 minutes obviously now with more knowledge about human behaviour.

Visited again yesterday by our local flock of partridges, but this time on a thin layer of fresh snow

I love that their tracks are like little arrows trailing over the landscape, like on a secret treasure map, but pointing backward… to confuse the predators?

A ball of #crestedPartridge perching for the night at the #GrusonGewächshäuser, where they roam freely in some of the greenhouses. It almost made me jump and scream, when I was standing right next to it and heard some rustling in the greenery. I did NOT expect a chonky demon bird almost at eye level, just centimetres away. 😅

Some more variations on this pattern. Tied in hand with silk thread and vintage silk button twist. The hackle is partridge. The underwing is rooster. The upper wing is guinea fowl.

This is the only time of year that I get to use this kind of fly, and the fishing has been disappointing. 😢
