Obscure Game 13:

Another parody platformer, really? Really. Because this one is quite good!

Kid Dracula is, originally known as Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun
("Demon Castle Special: I'm Kid Dracula"), is quite an amazing one.

The platforming feels amazing, and the combat compliments it quite well. The feel of gameplay is amazing here. Without a shred of doubt.

Graphics and parodic tone of the compliment each other. This game made me laugh quite a bit.

As part of Castlevania series the soundtrack as is always great.

What I like about parody platformers such as Kid Dracula is that they can be funny without being cynical. Cynicism is truly the enemy of the gaming in my opinion.

I have played the Game Boy version which was a great experience. At first, it is released for the NES, aka Famicom, I like that version too. But such a smooth experience on GB impresses me much more.

Here I have chosen to use the Japanese cover art, I mean look at it. So beautiful!

This game available on Castlevania Anniversary Collection.

This game definitely deserves your attention, absolutely!

Obscure Games 12:

I know I have talked about Splatterhouse but hear me out. Because this one is quite interesting.

Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is released for NES, exclusive to Japan.

The gameplay is as always high quality. Expected from Splatterhouse series. Platforming is quite enjoyable too. The combat harmonizes with the movement rather effortlessly, which is something that I deeply appreciated while playing the game.

What makes this game unique is that it is a parody of Splatterhouse. Parody platformers were flourished in NES and SNES era. As a result the game embraces much more comedic tone compared to the source material. I believe such cultural shift gives game its identity, and diverges from everything else.

As a parody it references quite a bit of pop-cultural references, and they fit the atmosphere of the game quite well. I will not expose the references since it can spoil the experience but trust me they will make you smile.

You should give this game a chance. As always it is always nice to share and learn about such titles. Games that are revived thanks to the fan translations. I have discovered this game thanks to the Splatterhouse community by large and the fan translation enabled me to experience it.

Also, it is available in Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1.

Definitely worth the effort!
