My latest photo project is about #macros in the #goldenhour of an #urban #park in #Berlin. Correspondingly, my latest YouTube photo publication shows the #lichen #Xanthoria #parietina (#Teloschistaceae), which is associated with #algae of #genus #Trebouxia. The yellow color of the ecologically tolerant lichen is due to the anthrachinone #parietin.

My #photo shows #lichens #Xanthoria #parietina (Teloschistales) and #Physcia #adscendens (Caliciales) on a branch of #tree Carpinus betulus. The #symbiosis of #mycobiont (fungus) and #photobiont (algae) = lichens has still much #research potential. The authors C. Lorenz et al. (2023) e.g. have successfully tested X. parietina for use in #space under #Martian conditions.
