I can't believe I managed to make #Wan 2.2 work on me old RIG. Anyway like all other "magical" #AI tools I tested for my personal DB of knowledge (because people tend to talk to themselves in jargon to avoid whatever.. And the little helpers like I have to translate to others less "gifted" ). It is hit and miss, very random, but I managed to make the #robot walk (#respect #metal #panthera). I swear I did not use "The Athlete of the Future" By Kazimir #Malevich but I can't prove it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#Panthera[note 1] is a genus within the family #Felidae, and one of two extant genera in the subfamily Pantherinae. It contains the largest living members of the cat family. There are five living species: the jaguar, leopard, lion, snow leopard and tiger. Numerous extinct species are also named, including the cave lion and American lion.

This subject comes up fairly often, so I'm putting my mini-essay here as an easy reference. Feel free to share, or copy and paste with attribution, as you see fit. Comments, suggestions, and corrections are welcome. 🦖 🧪 🚀 ✍️

Michael Crichton's main reference when writing #JurassicPark was Gregory Paul's Predatory #Dinosaurs of the World. That's how we ended up with human size "velociraptors," later retconned to the considerably larger #Utahraptor. Although the poor creatures still have broken wrists and a severe case of mange.

Paul is a notorious #lumper, who likes shoving distantly related organisms into the same #taxonomic category. (The opposite of lumpers are #splitters, who try to put every specimen into as distinct a category as possible.) But even he never claimed they were the same species. Rather, he put them into the same genus, making #Deinonychus into another species of #Velociraptor, i.e. V. antirrhopus instead of D. antirrhopus.

This isn't entirely a crazy idea. Lots of modern genera have species with similar body plans but enormous size differences. Consider #Panthera, the big cats, which contains species from P. uncia, the #snowleopard, to P. tigris, the #tiger—even though tigers are generally about five times the mass of snow leopards, similar to the ratio between D. antirrhopus and V. mongoliensis.

However, there are enough other differences between Deinonychus and Velociraptor that even Paul has long since admitted this was a mistake. No #paleontologist now doubts they each belong in their own genus. Unfortunately, since Jurassic Park has so thoroughly cemented the idea of the big V, I doubt it will ever go away.

Mini North American Animals Figurine Playset (Toymany)

Before I start this Blogpost, I must again thank @Kenc and the folks at Toymany for donating this review sample. It is very much appreciated. As with other Toymany set reviews, this is a general overview to introduce the animal toy community to the set and does not prevent others from doing more in-depth reviews of individual figures. I will be covering the animals based on family-level (or […]

White exceptionalism

White tigers are the result of a natural lack of pigmentation in tigers. It happens with about 1 out of 10 000 kittens.

Even if the tigers born with this are larger by birth and grow bigger faster than their yellow siblings, the lack of camouflage mean they get killed early and are extremely rare in the wild.

This one, on the other hand, looks he seriously considering reducing the amount of whitening in his shampoo.

Royale flare
For centuries, white tigers have been associated with royalty and extreme opulence.

The several hundred white tigers alive are almost all in captivity, often selective bred there. They are still sought after for exhibition, entertainment and trophies with a royal flare.

Fun fact: when white tigers get stressed, they get cross-eyed…

Acceptable captivity
The tigers kept in captivity in the now closed Dusit Zoo were considered well treated, according to animal welfare NGOs.
The tiger enclosures were each comprised of an outside spacious area and a hidden den or night room at the back end of the enclosure.

The animals had a pond or a moat for bathing all filled plentifully. It was plentiful of grass and natural vegetation. Facilities had caves and some platformed areas to climb.

Health conditions of the animals were observed as good. No overcrowding, good body conditions and nonvisible injuries. The cats performed in natural positive behaviours such as scent marking, sniffing, patrolling territory, sleeping and eating were all observed. Tigers appeared relaxed and at ease with surroundings, as it was stated in the report, based on three inspections over five years until Dusit Zoo was closed.

A blonde pose for a white lion

White lions are rare and highly appreciated, often considered divine and royal.

And sometimes you caught them strike a pose like a blonde diva.

These White Lion (Panthera Leo) are not albinos, they are a rare mutation of colour in lions. And it only occurs in one area of the world: In the Kruger-to-canyons Biosphere in Southern Africa. The otherwise tawny prides there carry the gene, and even if the cubs are caught or killed, there will still be white lions being born.

Careless care
Unfortunately, lions in South Africa are no longer considered threatened, meaning the trade in everything lion-related has increased. From trophy hunting to bone-trading for "medicinal" purposes.

This includes trading with white lions, even though they are rare. For a time, they went extinct in the wild but were reintroduced in the hunter free Kruger National Park in 2014.

In Thailand after the closure of Bangkok Dusit Zoo, there are white lions spread out to seven other zoos as late as 2018.

Passable conditions for big cats in this zoo
The lion enclosures were each comprised of an outside spacious area and a hidden den or night room at the back end of the enclosure.

Health conditions of the animals were observed as good. No overcrowding, good body conditions and nonvisible injuries. By way of mental health, there was no observation of nervous, dissatisfied pacing. The lions appeared relaxed and at ease with surroundings, as it was stated in an animal welfare report, based on three inspections over five years until Dusit Zoo was closed.
