If you were a company with a passionate user community and had to suddenly make a dozen staff redundant due to circumstances outside your control, how might you communicate this to the community? (For comparing and contrasting with a certain other layoff situation.) #Paizo #RPG #Unions

Paizo Restructuring: A Difficult Update About Our Future | Paizo Blog

Over the last year, Paizo has been navigating one of the most challenging periods in our company’s history. I want to speak to you directly about what happened, how it has affected us, and the steps we’re taking to protect the future of Pathfinder and Starfinder.
This is a hard update. But you deserve clarity, and we remain committed to being open with our community.

Pathfinder creators Paizo have $10 million of inventory stuck in a warehouse somewhere because of Diamond Comics, forcing it to lay off staff

"Paizo and dozens of other publishers have been in court ever since, fighting to reclaim our own products."

Supporting Laid off Paizo Workers

Stealing this outright from Reddit. Apologies to u/AAABattery03 (aka Mathfinder on YouTube):

For those unaware: Paizo had a massive restructuring the other day. While the thread yesterday had plenty of good discussion about supporting Paizo, buying their books, etc, what I want to bring attention to is directly helping the ones who got laid off as well.

Many of them have made BlueSky posts discussing their feelings on the matter. [...]

Distributor collapses have a long memory in the RPG industry - Wizard's Attic, Osseum Entertainment, and now Diamond Comics. Paizo has announced restructuring, $2M in losses, and sadly 12 layoffs... so far. #Paizo

My heart goes out to those who are losing their jobs. On plus side, existence of union seems to be allowing the members to have some agency in who is removed. Also, recall rights seems to me to be a upside if things improve for Paizo & they can be rehired. Totally understand their need to cut back on Foundry support for society play. My main #TTRPG is #TalesOfTheValiant &
#koboldpress has been very transparent on how expensive TTRPG conversions are. If not getting the $, then #paizo needs to cut.
I remember when I heard about the Diamond bankruptcy and how it was screwing with #Paizo 's release of Starfinder 2e. (Had to tell everyone not to buy it from Amazon as those were either scalpers or never getting fulfilled) Turns out it was so much worse: https://paizo.com/blog/paizo-restructuring-a-difficult-update-about-our-future #TTRPG

In a major blow to the TTRPG industry, Paizo has laid off roughly 15% of its workforce due to the recent bankruptcy of distributor Diamond Comics. https://ttrpgfans.com/pathfinder-layoffs-due-to-diamond-bankruptcy/ #ttrpg #tabletoprpg #Paizo #pathfinderrpg #starfinderrpg

Paizo is having to lay off people. Because their primary distributor went bankrupt and almost $10 million in stock is sitting there pending lawsuits.

I don’t really play Pathfinder anymore, but I still get their adventures and some world books because they are a company that employs good people. And one of the few union shops in the rpg industry.

Sucks to take a huge hit for no fault of their own.
