Morning on Padre Island. Gulf of Mexico, Texas

There’s a weirdo who periodically drops into my comments to “correct” the name of the Gulf of Mexico. The confidence is impressive. The grasp of history, not so much 🤭

American settlers didn’t arrive on empty land. They moved into Mexican territory and proved unable to do even the bare minimum required for coexistence: learn the language, engage with the culture, or accept the end of slavery. When adaptation failed, annexation became the workaround 🤷‍♀️

Long before that, this region was home to the Karankawa and Coahuiltecan people.

But sure, keep correcting geography. There’s something very fitting about historical ignorance delivered with absolute confidence 🤭

🇺🇦UA: Ранкова кава на Падре-Айленді. Кавʼярня з контейнерів, ніби тимчасова, але явно тут надовго. Всередині фотографії з подорожей, дуже впізнаваний настрій дороги, пилу й зупинок. Місце приємне, спокійне, без зайвих прикрас.

Їхня версія колача мене, як українку, трохи збентежила. Колач все ж таки від слова «коло», з цілком конкретним сенсом і формою. Тут же я отримала мафін з сиром та беконом в середині. Дивно, але смачно. Тож обійшлося без образ :)
