The glow stick consists of a transparent #plastic cylinder filled with phenyl oxalate #ester and a glass tube with hydrogen peroxide inside. When the stick is broken, the two substances merge and react with each other. A #chemiluminescence reaction takes place. This ester is #toxic to humans.
