Ah, yes, yet another "groundbreaking" paper on #memory #management for AI—because clearly, that's what’s been holding back our sentient #robot #overlords from taking over the world. 🤖🔍 Who knew that the future of #AI depended on making sure it remembers as well as a #goldfish at a sushi bar? 🐠🍣

$δ$-mem: Efficient Online Memory for Large Language Models

Large language models increasingly need to accumulate and reuse historical information in long-term assistants and agent systems. Simply expanding the context window is costly and often fails to ensure effective context utilization. We propose $δ$-mem, a lightweight memory mechanism that augments a frozen full-attention backbone with a compact online state of associative memory. $δ$-mem compresses past information into a fixed-size state matrix updated by delta-rule learning, and uses its readout to generate low-rank corrections to the backbone's attention computation during generation. With only an $8\times8$ online memory state, $δ$-mem improves the average score to $1.10\times$ that of the frozen backbone and $1.15\times$ that of the strongest non-$δ$-mem memory baseline. It achieves larger gains on memory-heavy benchmarks, reaching $1.31\times$ on MemoryAgentBench and $1.20\times$ on LoCoMo, while largely preserving general capabilities. These results show that effective memory can be realized through a compact online state directly coupled with attention computation, without full fine-tuning, backbone replacement, or explicit context extension.

🤖 Another day, another incomprehensible jargon-filled soup about how machines are getting better at understanding pictures and words. Who knew that blending buzzwords with indecipherable acronyms could make #AI sound like it just discovered fire? 🔥 Let's all pretend we're not terrified by the impending takeover of our #multimodal #overlords. 🚀

GLM-5V-Turbo: Toward a Native Foundation Model for Multimodal Agents

We present GLM-5V-Turbo, a step toward native foundation models for multimodal agents. As foundation models are increasingly deployed in real environments, agentic capability depends not only on language reasoning, but also on the ability to perceive, interpret, and act over heterogeneous contexts such as images, videos, webpages, documents, GUIs. GLM-5V-Turbo is built around this objective: multimodal perception is integrated as a core component of reasoning, planning, tool use, and execution, rather than as an auxiliary interface to a language model. This report summarizes the main improvements behind GLM-5V-Turbo across model design, multimodal training, reinforcement learning, toolchain expansion, and integration with agent frameworks. These developments lead to strong performance in multimodal coding, visual tool use, and framework-based agentic tasks, while preserving competitive text-only coding capability. More importantly, our development process offers practical insights for building multimodal agents, highlighting the central role of multimodal perception, hierarchical optimization, and reliable end-to-end verification.

🤖🍟 After a grueling 27,000 rounds of asking our #AI to play #dietitian, the poor robot couldn't even decide how many #carbs are #in a carrot. It seems our #silicon #overlords are better at overthrowing humanity than counting carbs. 😂🥕

I Asked AI to Count My Carbs 27,000 Times. It Couldn’t Give Me the Same Answer Twice. | Diabettech - Diabetes and Technology

Ask ChatGPT to estimate the carbs in your lunch. Now ask it again. And again. Five hundred times. You’d expect the same answer each time. It’s the same photo, the same model, the same question. But you won’t get the same answer. Not even close — and the differences are large enough to cause a

🚨 Alert! The #singularity is #approaching, and absolutely nobody is prepared, not even the esteemed author. They're too busy daydreaming about being #Elon #Musk 🤯, while simultaneously lamenting their lack of a cushy seat at the #AI overlord's table. Pro tip: maybe spend less time pondering #existential what-ifs and more time securing a #bunker 🚀.

Do you really want the US to “win” AI?

By all accounts, I should be a neofeudalist. I should love what’s happening. The AI I dreamed of my whole life is being built, engineer-type strongmen are sort of in charge, and people are saying out loud the things I have just thought. You might argue that I like it and I’m just not happy with my seat at the table. I ask myself a lot if this is true, like what if I was Elon. Would I be enjoying it then from that position?

Behold, the machine overlords' latest attempt to replace us with their "Machine Payments #Protocol," because apparently, pressing a button was too much for us lowly humans 🤖💸. Enjoy deciphering yet another payment solution that will solve all your problems by creating more! 🥳

We’re launching the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), an open standard, internet-native way for agents to pay—co-authored by Tempo and Stripe. Businesses on Stripe can accept payments over MPP in a few lines of code using our PaymentIntents API.

I think I’ve finally pinpointed why it is that I have an allergic reaction when I’m confronted with a text that has me as the intended recipient, but that has been run through an LLM to change or “clean up” the wording - especially if it’s internal communication or even direct communication. Well, at the very least, I think I’ve found the vocabulary to express the idea: When you run your message through an LLM, it will inevitably obscure what you actually wanted to say; we choose words for a reason after all - even if they’re sometimes not the right words.

In my search my for ever running search for knowledge, I started to see lemmy links more often. Way more often. Lemmy is gaining momentum if it's links seep in more and more in my FediVerse feeds.

I had deliberately stayed away from the drama which the reddit Overlords inflicted upon their users, with their LLM training fails. I have Reddit accounts which are basically Smurfs and were hardly used.

I was hoping that, since Lemmy is also federated, I could add an account through my Mastodon clients. It's quite clear that I didn't (bother) to read which Federated protocols Lemmy networks use, otherwise I would have known beforehand that it would fail.

Interestingly enough, I've had a Jerboa client installed on one of my androids without using it. Of course it was deleted after a while

Jerboa for lemmy is now run with a purpose, after deliberatly making a Lemmy account in the LemmyVerse. What I looked for was a server which does not reside in the USA (reasons should be obvious considering Little Donny the Orange President) so big tech USA has no grip on that account
