Another good reason to explore #localFirst development workflows, like #Radicle .
And a damn good argument against relying on #SaaS platforms.

edit: Also worth highlighting are the social hurdles she mentions. Explain the social rules and expectations, ask new contributors if they need help. Working on a PR in public and everyone seeing your failed attempts can be stressful.

Tilda Udufo and the true cost of Open Source entry

Tilda Udufo taught herself to code on a phone, nearly quit at Mozilla, and became one of open source's most deliberate community builders.

What a great article about Tilda Udufo, who I'm extremely lucky to work with on @outreachy! I loved reading about her start in #opensource. Tilda isn't just an #Outreachy organizer, but got started as an intern with Outreachy, then continued to help others as a mentor and now as an organizer!

My favorite quote: "The pivot to open source was driven by a quiet need to prove she belonged in rooms she was still afraid to enter."

[ANN] YOCaml, a framework for static site generator

[ANN] YOCaml 3.0.0 It had been a while since we announced a release of YOCaml (since 2.5.0), but this weekend we released version 3.0.0 (already available on OPAM)! Since version 2.5.0, many changes have been made to YOCaml, which you can read about in the release notes for the various versions released over the months: (2.6.0, 2.7.0, 2.8.0). Some major innovations that can be noted are: YOCaml finally deletes files that it did not create, which allows for intermediate build steps that co...

In addition to #Outreachy, we have an internship program for teenagers, the Institute for Computing in Research!

This program is also very exciting to me, as it provides opportunities to high school students to do scientific research internships, wherein they happen to use free software!

https://computinginresearch.org/

Run by amazing volunteers as well as incredible teachers we pay for their very valuable time, I always love seeing what the students work on!

Only $2657 left to meet SFC's match...

Institute for Computing in Research – exploring the use of advanced computing in research and scholarship

Did you know that an amazing group of #Outreachy interns is working on their projects right now? And we're set to welcome applicants to the May round in the coming week. I'm always so inspired by the work they do!

Help us continue to do this work! We have just $2,657 left to raise in our match challenge!
