Gorgeous. A 19th‑century double‑walled kitchen garden turned into a plant‑lover’s playground, complete with lake, tropical house and enough bunting to make Pinterest weep. It’s free to get in (dangerous, because you’ll spend it all in the tearoom anyway), dog‑friendly and run by people who clearly know their way around both a trowel and a Victoria sponge. We had lovely food - fresh, colourful and the kind of salad that makes you feel virtuous enough to justify cake. The babies were entertained by cuddles and the rest of us got to pretend we were having a calm, civilised lunch. 10/10 would recommend if you like flowers, cake and the smug glow of “we’re making memories” while secretly counting down to nap time. 📌 Baumber, Horncastle, LN9 5NL, United Kingdom. About (sourced from Walled Garden Baumber’s own official site, the Visit Lincolnshire tourism listing and a feature guide on Lincoln and Beyond) • It’s a 4‑acre double‑walled garden in Baumber, near Horncastle, Lincolnshire, originally the 19th‑century kitchen garden for Stourton Hall (demolished in 1955). • The site was derelict when designer and photographer duo Sonia and David Elton took it on in 2006. They restored it from the ground up, adding creative new features while preserving its history. • They first opened the gates to the public in 2016 for Friday afternoons - the response was so positive that by 2017 the old potting shed had become a tearoom, with plant sales and events added. • Today it’s open all year round with free entry, dog‑friendly policies and a mix of quirky planting areas, a lake, tropical house and deckchair lawns. • The tearoom serves home‑baked food with vegan and gluten‑free options, often using local produce - which we thoroughly enjoyed trying their menu! • It’s also a wedding and events venue and hosts seasonal markets, workshops and festive events."

We checked out some places that were open for 'Louth Friendship Festival' but didn't manage to make it to all the places that were open - was nice to see people involved."

NOT A MOTH POST. No mothing last night as the weather was atrocious. But mothman has other passions to pursue, one of which is running. I say ‘running’, it’s more a case of who can move slower, me … or a slug?! But I do it because I love it and it keeps my ravishing body all lithe and lissome. Beautiful 6km round the park … plenty of inclines, descents, twists and turns and lots of trees, plants, squirrels and waterfowl to enjoy.

It's all uphill getting here, but it's worth it for the views. I went for the easier top route of #Hastings Country Park today (151m/495ft elevation gain) despite accumulating 100weight of mud on my Hokas and halfway up my legs, but what's a run if you can't bring a bit of it home with you? 9.95km officially ... but let's call it 10. I won't tell if you won't! 😉

Much milder (9C) so had to dig out the short sleeved tops today which had been hibernating at the back of the drawer. Spring is on the way! :-) A bit drab in the sky but grey skies are still beautiful skies. Endorphins aplenty. GPS up the creek again though. Bloody #Garmin watch! Like me, nothing more than a vanity item and pretty feckin' useless 😅 #running #runnersofmastodon #fridayrun #nature #trees #outdoorsisfree

Felt bouncy today on my 6km run, which is basically a mildly undulating 51m/167ft elevation gain route around the park and up through the woods. GPS behaved itself today. Clearly ashamed after yesterday's ticking off.

Saw a heron. Sculpture is called Continuum, and is made of interlocking females that form an arch and reflect. #running #runnersofmastodon #heron #sculpture #outdoorsisfree #Thursday

Scenes from a walk, part two.

Further to my 'getting my leg over' gag earlier, here is the full story of my trying to clamber onto one of my favourite trees.

It wasn't pretty. It wasn't elegant. It certainly wasn't decorous. It was not becoming of a man of my advancing years. But I do love a tree. And the trees love me back.
