There's a really bad intersection on the way to and from school. Actually it's a fine intersection, walking towards the school has the right of way it's just that drivers are terrible and try to rush through (into children, parents, and other vehicles all of whom have the right of way).
Today I was almost hit by a car that didn't stop at the stop sign despite being in the crosswalk. Turns out my kids' friend's mom had the same thing happen!
A week ago there was a collision that resulted in one of the cars completely in the sidewalk (forcing kids and parents to walk a block in the road due to snow banks).
Friends, I know I'm preaching to the choir, but don't drive near schools at drop off and pick up. If you must and can't take an alternate route pay the fuck attention to your surroundings.
@cbcottawa_mirror this is a ridiculous headline.
Pedestrians don't have fatal collisions.
This person was struck and killed by a motor vehicle which was ostensibly under the "control" of another person.
Strong Towns Ottawa sent out a letter to the premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, opposing his plan to remove speed cameras. Speed cameras have been shown time and time again to overwhelmingly increase safety on our roads.
We can't keep letting populist rhetoric get in the way of our safety.
If you have a chance, write to ur local MPP telling them that you disagree with these dangerous changes, and you can even write Premier Ford yourself at [email protected]
Hey #ottawa
Lets be careful out there.
I was almost hit by a car making a left turn into my crosswalk. I was crossing at an intersection, in a crosswalk, on my light.
If I had not been watching the vehicle travelling at speed making a left hand turn into my crosswalk I would be either dead or in an ambulance
I had to JUMP to get out of the way.
The driver, too late, realized and looked shocked.
“Don’t Pave Paradise” signs are appearing in an Ottawa neighbourhood which currently has *only* pavement, not sidewalks.
