Finished this custom piece for a client today… travel #hoodie with deep side seam #pockets #silk #charmeuse lining the hood, a natural button closure and I decided I would rather make a #boundButtonhole than a machine one. I went vertical as gravity would help hold the piece closed and it suited the narrow double stitched folded back finish. #customClothing #ottawaSewist #designer #uncededAlgonquinTerritory #creativeAndPractical

Finished this custom bomber jacket in lovely wool blend with a black flannel lining for a client this morning. Then friends dropped off their old canopy/ outside shelter and we “test” set it up.
Now I’m going to sit out back to do computer related work outside…. #aprilInOttawa #ottawaDesigner #ottawaSewist #selfEmployed #sewing #jacket #wool #fashion #selfCare
It’s #familyDay here in Ottawa so here’s a #Redesign of mom’s dress from the 80s updated for a 2022 bride.
It mostly fit in the bodice and some reshaping of the skirt still maintained the original pleats at the waistline.
The opening up of the neckline and shortening of the sleeves really made it suit her.

Studio work for a client yesterday involved improving this vintage jacket she inherited from an elder family member.
I took it in at the shoulders and front breadth, allowing me to shorten the sleeves through the armhole at the same time as removing the space formerly allowed for shoulder pads.
Then I added these pockets that are sort of a hybrid welt/buttonhole pocket. The velvet ribbon forms the simplest of decorative finish for the openings, which I kept narrower to minimize showing too much of the pocket lining at the opening. Normally, I would have made a facing, but not enough fabric came from the sleeve head adjustment.
Anyhoo- it turned out well!

Took some time between client work to create this new over the shoulder bag… #organicCottonHemp #handDyed #cottonmuslin #upcycledZipper
I used up some lovely #offcuts of dyed and painted fabrics by two different Ottawa fabric artists. ( artychick textile and Shibori Borealis)

Also made a new pair of pants and shorts for myself from dead stock fabrics and did some mending … #sewing #ottawaSewist #designer #ecoSewing

#sewing for a client- made two flower girl head pieces and a pocket square to match her dress. #ottawaDesigner #OttawaSewist #fabricArts #FabricFlowers #tavCreations #bridal #accessories
Is that a photo of a side zipper? Nothing special, right?
Heh- the entry into the dress remains in the centre back to allow for hair and makeup to be done before she gets into it.
There are two of these side zippers installed during the alteration to allow for… drum roll, please… breast feeding.
Yep. I rock. No question… 😉

Worked on re making a #vintage wedding dress today and found confetti in it from its first wearing! I think it’s from the #1950s or #1960s, home made- no label. Part of the re-making involves changing the neckline and removing a Peter Pan type collar. It is now a bow sewn to a new veil I made for my client. Every dress is its own adventure!

Had a fitting today of this #wip - it will be a #baladi dress for a dancer client. #blacksequins #customMade #ottawaSewist #ottawaDesigner #tavCreations #handbasted #couture
One of my brides shared some photos post wedding- the first was taken day 1- her mom’s dress that she could have worn as it, but she had a vision in mind! Photo 2 is from the big day- modifying the neckline, sleeves, and waistline to personalize it for her was an in depth adventure! Very pleased with the result! #TAVCreations #designer #bridal #ottawaSewist #reDesign #AlterationsSpecialist #reuse #vintage #maker #sewing
