Otakon's randomized queue system actually worked in our favor this year. I had two different browsers open, and my spouse had his laptop open. Once the block opened, it was his laptop that got us a spot in line under 300. We got the rooms we wanted at our first choice hotels.

The next member in our group was able to get another room close to the convention, and a second room not too far away. So we're set for close hotels. This year's experience was better thanks to luck.
