Tad Williams epische Reihe über die fantastische Welt Osten Ard war eine der Inspirationsquellen für die Game of Thrones Romane von George R.R. Martin. Die ursprünglich vierbändigen Romanreihe "Das Geheimnis der großen Schwerter", die in Osten Ard spielt, erschien im Jahr 1988 und erzählt die Heldenreise des Küchenjungen Simon, der zum Herrscher über Osten Ard aufsteigt.
