#FrankHerbert’s book describes #ornithopters as “any aircraft capable of sustained wing-beat flight in the manner of birds.” For #DunePartOne, director #DenisVilleneuve designed his own spin on the craft and his team built one at 48ft and 75ft long. Each had operable doors and interior cockpit areas for practical filming with the actors. They weighed over 11 tons.
Super fun build! The wingspan is absolutely crazy. Excited for the film next week! 😎

This episode sees a wide-ranging discussion about not just the trends in fantasy in the early 20th century but also folklore and mythology more broadly. A new episode of my podcast is up (or will be. Adam uploaded the wrong audio file, but I'm sure it'll be fixed very soon). This episode, we talk about an authorized prequel to the classic novel Treasure Island, with a wider discussion of pirates in history and popular culture.
http://neversleepsnetwork.com/podcast/s3e76-chapter-seventy-six-the-legend-of-flints-trove/
In this episode we're hoisting the mizzen mast and swabbing the poop deck to take a look at that staple of adventure stories, the world of piracy--specifically through the lens of Porto Bello Gold, a largely-forgotten pirate novel that happens to be an authorized sequel to the bedrock of pirate fiction, Treasure Island. Turn back now, land lubbers, lest yer ears be assailed by a barrage of salty sea-dog speech... Support us on Patreon and listen to the show a week early!
