Self-test: Ordering Cannabis on the Internet

As some of you living outside of Germany might have heard, the German Federal Government partially legalized Cannabis starting April 1st, 2024. Since some weeks ago, I noticed advertisements for online shops selling Cannabis online. Since it is forbidden to sell or even trade Cannabis, I did some research and found out that they are exploiting a legal loophole: After the partial legalization, Cannabis no longer falls under the Narcotics Act but is regarded as a pharmaceutical, hence it can be bought in pharmacies - a prescription is still required.

Since I'm a curious guy, I decided to do a test. Is it really easy to order Cannabis on the Internet? What is the process to order it?

I decided on https://www.doktorabc.com to do my test. First of all, you have to decide which Cannabis strain you want to order. After placing it in your shopping cart, you have to answer some medical questions. They are related to medical/chronic pre-existing conditions, pharmaceuticals that you have to take, whether you already had a Cannabis prescription, and how the consumption of Cannabis helped you regarding your medical condition. Besides the cost for the Cannabis itself, you have to pay for the physician who is writing the prescription. After payment, the questionnaire is sent to a physician. He checks the questionnaire (at least that's what they say), writes the prescription, and it is sent to the pharmacy, which then packs the Cannabis and ships it with DHL. The package arrived two days later.

The whole process is quite simple. It is terrifying that they ask for your date of birth but do not validate it, e.g., by validating some data from the ID card. The DHL delivery driver did not carry out an age check either. So underage people could order Cannabis easily, which is illegal.

Conclusion: Although it is illegal to sell Cannabis in Germany, you can order it easily because of a legal loophole. In my opinion, physicians who issue prescriptions for this are acting questionably. Underage people can buy Cannabis although it is illegal for them to possess and consume it. Getting Cannabis from pharmacies for recreational purposes is questionable since people who really need it because of their health condition might not get it due to shortages and delivery difficulties.

As this was a test to check the process, I'm not going to order Cannabis again from one of those online shops because of the facts described in my conclusion. And I ask everybody else not to order Cannabis for recreational purposes from one of those online shops.
