After 548 days i was finally able to bike to work again yesterday.
It wasn't planned enough days before so i was training indoor hard and yesterday performances weren't brilliant (but ok enough). I did A-1 (16.7km, 130m ascend) and i did 25s worse than my best scored at the end of 2024 season (first ride of 2025 was slower so i improved compared to it). I even not pushed at full and had great sensations. In the morning was very cold, just 1°C, while it was 16°C with little wind against in the afternoon.
I did another ride today on C-1. The morning was a little warmer 3°C and it was hotter in afternoon with 22°C.
Had great feeling today, almost like i never ride the day before or trained earlier. And i improved more than 2,5min than previous best 💪 oh i did also a light run on the lunch break of 30min (you know garmin badges... 😛 )
I don't know when i be able to ride again...i consider this as a prologue of biking season and i feel i'm ready for it and improved a bit.
Forgot to mention that now i am 13kg less than 2024 season. I can see the difference on the ascends, i feel less tired. It feels so good! 😀

Halfway through my 8th ride after installing a new derailleur hanger, the new one snapped. I didn’t even pedal hard. Should I give up on this bike? Are the Orbea derailleur hanger made of cardboard?

Winter bike finally ready. Originally thought I could make the original mechanical disc brakes work by replacing the cables. They were however too corroded to be saved.

When I put the rear wheel back on, the derailleur hanger snapped, it was severely corroded as well. That is the most annoying thing to break on a bike since there are so many variations. At one point I thought that was the end of the bike and then I found a shop with the right on in stock.

Oh, I was unable to get the part of the hanger mounted to the derailleur off so I had to replace that as well.

When putting the chain back on I realised that the crank wasn’t spinning freely. Scratch that, I would probably spend 50W-75W just to turn that.

Now, my Orbea Carpe that started its life with a 1x7 drivetrain has a full Shimano Cues 1x11 speed drivetrain and good hydraulic brakes.

Back to commuting by bike again.
