This is the best write up I’ve seen about the #OptusOutage . Minimal speculation, just analysis of what could be seen from outside Optus with some pretty good tools

Digging into the Optus Outage | Kentik Blog

Last week a major internet outage took out one of Australia’s biggest telecoms. In a statement out yesterday, Optus blames the hours-long outage, which left millions of Aussies without telephone and internet, on a route leak from a sibling company. In this post, we discuss the outage and how it compares to the historic outage suffered by Canadian telecom Rogers in July 2022.

Does anyone else find #optus latest reason for the outage a bit suspect, Because I certainly do.

Interesting explanation about what really went wrong with Optus last week.

The short version: it looks like Optus doesn't control its own core network. Its parent company Singapore Telecom does. Optus just resells it.

Which is why Optus' CEO was so vague about what the issue actually was: she was protecting her bosses in Singapore.

There is a change control record (or some/many of them) that says what should have been done to the #optus network at 4am that morning.

Is there any good reason that Kelly Bayer-Sager would not hit File, Print as PDF, Send to admin@optusConsumerWebsite with a simple: "Post this, unannotated, now".

(Oh, it includes passwords or credentials? Yeah nah. And ifit really does? That's a good reason for delaying the post for the 15 minutes it takes to sack the author and change the passwords.)

Optus has executed another spectacular failure - they have been allowed to get away with the data breach last year.
This time they say ‘they don’t know what has caused this major outage’ - I say that complete and utter bullshit - they know but are lying about.
I wonder if the govt is going to let them off the hook on this one too.
My data was stollen and Optus was very arrogant with me about it.
They’re in the same basket as Qantas
