But I'm such a fan of this map style that I couldn't let it go and started a reviving/continuation plan for it.

Stefan (maintainer of OTM's server) is working on a vector version, but until then we have something to cling to !

Oh boo, Canada has grown too big for my watch!

My Garmin watch allows (custom) updated maps, and I use OpenTopo's maps (https://github.com/der-stefan/OpenTopoMap).

The map for Canada now takes up more than 4GB, which the watch's file system doesn't support.

So instead of using pregenerated ones, I now need to convert OpenStreetMap maps to Garmin maps myself, for my trip to ConFoo which only includes Québec.

Luckily the map data and tools are all available.
