We are excited to announce our collaboration with ALASCA for the upcoming ALASCA Summit 2026 (Nov 3–4) in Dresden, Germany. We are hosting a dedicated OpenInfra Track on Day 1 to bring our global community together to advance digital sovereignty in Europe!

Are you operating open infrastructure at scale? Developing new features? Combining #OpenStack, #Kubernetes, and #Linux in innovative ways? We want to hear from you!

The CFP closes 31 July! https://alasca.cloud/en/alasca-summit-2026/alasca-summit-2026-programme/alasca-summit-2026-call-for-contributions/

Dear kolla-ansible or OpenStack users,

not everything I encounter is worth a bug report, but other than the IRC channel (which sounded development-oriented, but which I do not find the link to anymore) is there no forum or chat or Matrix room where kolla-ansible users can help each other? Or is this done on the OpenStack forums or user groups or similar?

#OpenStack #kolla-ansible

OK, so I took the plunge and finally (after ~7 years of thinking about it and being distracted by other things) started playing around with OpenStack and kolla-ansible.

The quick start guide makes it sound simple and it really is. After some fiddling with the proper kolla-ansible versions I had a working installation (single node, but still impressive).

Encountered some bugs on the way (and reported them), which is to be expected by using a not-yet-released version (stable/2026.1 git branch).

Next step is trying to find documentation on how to use it to do a multi-machine installation where things like storage get important and interesting.

I'll keep you posted. If you do not hear from me again, you know why... :-)

Stop using user passwords for OpenStack automation

#Yahoo Japan’s consolidating 164 #OpenStack clusters into one
Company revealed that LINE’s internal cloud, called “Verda”, comprised 130,000 VMs running across 11,000 hosts that sprawled across four OpenStack clusters. Yahoo! Japan’s “YNW” cloud ran on 27,000 servers, and saw more than 160,000 VMs run across over 160 OpenStack clusters. The company’s plan for the new “Flava” cloud calls for 500 or more hosts, 9,000-plus VMs, and a single OpenStack cluster.
