Does AI mean the end of open source? I've been hearing this discussion much lately, and I'm so glad to hear David Nalley addressing and refuting it on his keynote at OpenSearchCon India. David is not only my boss and the lead of AWS Open Source and more recently the broader Amazon Web Services (AWS) Developer Experience. More importantly, David is an #OpenSource veteran, who's held roles in the The Apache Software Foundation and more. And he says clearly that it's not. why? - the token economics (I've been posting about it quite a bit) - the design patterns - and, last but not least, the community Check out the recording in the first comment to learn more, as well as to get his overview of the state of the OpenSearch Project, and how it is addressing the AI era with its recent innovation, agents, skills and more. #OpenSearchAmbassador #OpenSearchCon #OpenSearch #community #AI
This morning at #OpenSearchCon India David Nalley gave us a keynote about "Does Open Source Matter Anymore" due to some of the #AI chatter. He discussed the question & how AI does not signify the end of #opensource, but also how @OpenSearchProject & open source projects can build collaboratively to move things forward w/ these tools. I had to smile when we heard about the excellent User Group program we've been build for a few years now
๐ข #OpenSearch 3.7 is out!
Here are some of my personal highlights:
โ๏ธ ISM (Index State Management) new Simulate API
Dry-run ISM policies before they touch your indices, letting you verify step before irreversible actions can execute (think index deletion).
โก Vector Retrieval up to 5.5ร Faster
Using doc_values for k-NN vector reads, skipping _source decompression entirely. No reindexing required.
