When it comes to getting an OpenBSD virtual machine, you can go to your preferred Linux VPS provider and hack its rescue mode to install OpenBSD. Or you can go to a VPS provider that offers booting from an ISO file and getting access to the console. In that case, you’d probably get an OpenBSD VM running on KVM. Which is not that bad. But you can also book your VM from OpenBSD Amsterdam and let the 100% OpenBSD journey begin.

In the wake of the #vultr debacle, I'd encourage anyone who's considering #openbsdamsterdam to go for it. In my 3+ years of using it I've had no problems, and the support is incredibly good. They also donate to #openbsd. Win/win.

First of all - never do #openbsd sysupgrade from unreliable connection like WebSSH on ipad (it will disconnect after switching to other app)!
Second - access to the console for vm on #openbsdamsterdam is great and easy - thanks @mischa for good intro to the setting after initial setup.
Third - sysupgrade process survived broken connection - #OpenBSD74 on the board - thanks #openbsd team!

Playing around with #terraform and AWS is actually fun. But I would never fully replace my indie infrastructure with a big cloud provider. Nothing beats #selfhosting, or smaller providers such as #openbsdamsterdam as a hobby. But could think of an additional EC2 #OpenBSD instance for HA and home labbing. That would be a personal hybrid cloud, wouldn't it?
